They use a small evaporator that mounts in the conditioned area on the wall or the ceiling and tie to an outdoor condenser just like your whole house A.C. but smaller. We install Daikin brand units that are extremely efficient. They are very reliable and are one of the industry leaders in the mini split area. Ductless minis allow users to add supplemental air conditioning and/or heating to a space like a room addition, or an area struggling to keep up in harsh climates. These units can also be used to heat and cool an entire house as the primary system!
